School vehicle collides with truck in South Africa, killing eleven kids

(MENAFN) In Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg, South Africa, eleven children die and five others sustain critical injuries after a school vehicle collides with a truck on Monday morning, according to local reports.

Preliminary information shows that 11 learners are pronounced dead at the scene, while the five critically injured are receiving treatment in hospital, said Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial department of education.

"Further verified details will be shared in due course as information becomes available," the statement added.

Reports indicate that the private school vehicle veered off the road following the collision with the truck.
